There’s
never a Thursday evening at Croydon Communicators that is the same. This one
was simply ‘Palatial’, Inspiring, and Educating and as always Fun.
One unique
thing anyone would notice is the arm welcome members and guests new and
current receive as soon as enter the venue at Mind in Croydon. And what a great
venue it is!
A few
minutes before time Sergeant at Arms, Anne opened the meeting clearly
announcing the meeting was about to begin - WELCOME EVERYONE.
President
Hanna as lively as ever opened up the session engaging the audience with a
natural smile.
In his first
time role (CONGRATULATIONS Oscar) as Toastmaster for the evening, Oscar described
the role, with a great sense of humour engaging the audience from the start.
One could see this was going to be an Oscar Winning Performance. Again,
‘Excellence Together’ at Croydon Communicators.
So to
introduce the timekeeper, “If you delay, time will not delay”… so welcome Arish
in his first time role (CONGRATULATIONS Arish).
More
functionaries and roles to keep the meeting flowing and in comes Cheryn as the 'Ah Counter' for the evening. Speakers, be aware
because we’ll be taking note!
Still more
functionaries and roles to come, and in another first time role, Grammarian for
the evening, Simon (CONGRATULATIONS Simon) stepped up to the stage and presented
the 'word of the day' - "Palatial" as if he knew this was going to be
a Palatial evening.
We all need
a 'Tip of the Day’ from time to time and where better to hear one than at
Croydon Communicators on a Thursday – and last Tuesday of the month now! And
this was a true demonstration of ‘Excellence Together’ where Samir stepped up
to deliver an impromptu Tip of the Day at the last minute - “Ce’st La”.
Audience
it’s your turn to talk! With so much energy and grace Aarthi took centre stage.
And keeping a close eye on time, Aarthi cleverly kept it short and simple but
got the audiences vocal chords going.
With the
audience warmed up and four speeches lined up lined up it was time to open up
the stage for the main speeches.
First up on
stage was Ayo, with a speech called 'On Purpose'. And it was clear that Ayo
‘was on purpose’, a speech full of great factual, meaningful and thought
provoking content with so much for the audience to absorb. Did I hear 90% of me
is dormant! And that the richest place is the cemetery! Ayo, definitely ‘On
Purpose’ and this is; ‘the full you’. Excellent.
Second to
speak was Anne with a speech called ‘Intro to Keynote Speaker / Panel of
Managers’. Well if the audience weren’t mistaken, Anne could have been
introducing the first Inauguration of any president. Fantastic!
So much to
learn in two speeches and still two more to come!
Third to
take the stage was Raquel with her speech entitled “Two Left Feet”. This was
truly engaging in many ways. Who would have ever dreamt the audience would
start dancing… Truly inspirational and visibly lots of “Two left Feet”!
Last but
certainly not least, it was club President Hanna who took the stage and presented,
her speech called ‘Don’t be desperate, Be determined’. This presented some very
true to life experiences and a message to take note off, simply; ‘don’t be
desperate, just be determined’!
With that
message all four speeches were completed and clearly ‘EXCELLENCE TOGETHER’
shining through.
Evaluators
step up, and first to evaluate was Amma, evaluating Ayo’s speech 'On Purpose' with pure purpose, cause
and diligence.
Second in
line to evaluation process was Paul R-T, evaluating Anne’s speech Intro to
Keynote Speaker / Panel of Managers '. One could not have guessed that this was
Pauls R-T’s first evaluation (CONGRATUALTIONS Paul R-T). This just proves what
can be achieved at Croydon Communicators.
Mohan took
centre stage to evaluate Raquel’s ‘Two Left Feet’, illustrating the uniqueness
and engaging way in getting the audience to their feet.
To end the
evaluations Area 35 Governor took centre stage evaluating club President
Hanna’s speech called “Don’t be desperate. Now there’s a lesson for all!
A short
break followed and the audience digested the first half of the meeting.
Time for the
fun… and Table Topics was led by another first time role by Raj
(CONGRATUALTIONS Raj). With an array of interesting questions the audience were
at time in fits of laughter as the unsuspected topics contenders tested their
impromptu speaking skills.
Topics
evaluators, Mathew Shawn & Issac then stepped up to provide an evaluation
account of their nominated topics speakers.
So how about
those erm’s & arr’s, Cheryn as diligent as ever delivered some purposeful
feedback and provided an account of who needs to watch out for those ‘gap
fillers’.
With time
pressing Arish presented the timings for each of the candidates in this
evening’s event.
So far so
good and we’re nearing the end of another successful evening at Croydon
Communicators where we continue to educate, inspire, motivate and build
confidence.
Grammarian,
Simon demonstrated the art of good listening and good use of a well chose ‘Word
of the Day’ in “Palatial”.
So time to
recap and General Evaluator Joe summarized a very Palatial event full of fun,
learning, , impact, energy greeted by a warm reception at the start. Job done!
And once again ‘EXCELLENCE TOGETHER’ at Croydon Communicators.
A final word
from President Hanna gave the opportunity for all new and returning guests to
