Thursday 11th Oct 2012

Could a Thursday evening be so enlightening, full of humour, intellect and learning? Only at Croydon Communicators.

And how nice to see so many returning guests and more new faces... YOU ARE ALL WELCOME!!

This Thursday evening presented a first time role by stand-in President - Cheryn. If there was a way to describe how one can develop leadership, presentation and public speaking skills then one only had to witness our stand in President.

Our Toastmaster for the evening was another first time role and was executed with perfection by Sue who gave the meeting a very tasteful edge throughout. Again, another example of 'Excellence Together' at Croydon Communicators.

With formalities over, Donna warmed up the meeting with something for the audience to think about, "What is your favourite World Day or If you could choose a World Day what would you choose and why?" With answers such as "Stay at Home Day", "My Birthday, World Day" and "Day off Work Day", the audience was certainly warmed up for another eventful meeting.

The 'Tip of the Day', was put forward by Raquel and if you ever have problems remembering when the clocks go back or forward during those autumn and spring months, then remember this; 'take a step, and spring forward' into the summer and 'fall back' when the leaves fall in autumn, its as simple as that!

Grammarian, Rhamat gave an insight as to what to expect from our grammaticism throughout the meeting along with the 'Adventitious' word of the day. Definitely one to think about.

Promptly following was the Boss of Time; Timekeeper Oscar, who set order with strick timekeeping, but reluctant to ring that bell of shame. Watch your time speakers, you have been warned!

So down to the speeches, and the evening presented three speeches in all, which included one ICE BREAKER!

Taking centre stage, Mohan set the ball rolling with his Ice Breaker Speech, 'Dreams - Can they be turned into reality?'. They certainly can Mohan, and you proved it! An entrepreneur in the making... keep dreaming, you are surely on course to make those dreams come true (CONGRATULATIONS).

Second to take the stage, and literally with a "BANG" was Aleks with 'Stardust'. Now, if I were a science lecturer I'd be proud to say the least. On the other hand, if I were a student I'd be gripped and mesmerized. This was just a fantastic all round educational speech... and guess what?  Did you know we are all carbon!

Last to take centre stage, but certainly not least, was Anne who enlightened the audience with 'My Back'. Some very useful learning tips for life on how to loosen up those joints, and Oh! Watch your back!

With all the prepared speeches delivered with gusto and style, it was time for the evaluators Joe, David L and David T gave some constructive feedback with commendations and recommendations. Joe putting into practice CCRRC evaluation techniques; the highly experienced David L pointing out the finer details of speech perfection by setting the stage right and the very inspirational David L clinically demonstrating evaluation excellence.

Before the break came some club business presented by Cheryn which included Joe describing the recent Public Relations activities that took place, last Thursday, at Mind in Croydon (venue hosts for Croydon Communicators).  Mind, who were celebrating World Mental Health Day  kindly allocated a slot to Croydon Communicators to demonstrate what we do.  A huge thank you to all those who organised and took part in the Open Day event.  And a special "THANK YOU" to Jacqui & Arlene for allowing Croydon Communicators time and space at the event.

Time for a short break, but before time, how are we doing for time Oscar? A brief report on all speakers timings followed. So far so good! 'Excellence Together'.

The second half of the meeting always brings some fun and humour by introducing impromptu speaking via Table Topics.

Table Topics master for the evening Wumi, offered a variety of questions to the unsuspecting contestants.

Topics questions ranged from, "Who would you most love to meet & why?", "If you where stuck on a Desert Island, which two people would you like to have with you?", "Which Superhero would you most like to be and why?"...

Answers from the unsuspecting TT Contenders, Issac - wishing to meet Richard Branson, I wonder why$$$?; Elizabeth - meeting someone in Business? Could that be Richard Branson as well$$$!?; Kaushik - Don't worry, we all understand Kaushik, very difficult question! Play safe, and yes, we do agree, take the Wife and the Mother-in-Law with you to that desert Island; Mobola - Teleported to the Seychelles. how nice!; KayJay - Who's that Superhero? Bull****man!!! Rid the world of all Bull, and it will be a much better place... totally agree; Ayo - Family Love, definitely so; Simon - Meeting the Queen to discuss 'The Lisbon Treaty'... are you a Politician of some sort? And last but certainly not least Anna - what a coincidence! You've done this before! OK, we'll settle for Apple and Custard Pie sounds nice.. MMmmm :)

With the meeting drawing to an end it was left to our VP of Education, Gareth to sum up the evenings meeting. And with much wit & humour Gareth summed up another exciting, educating and inspiring Thursday evening at Croydon Communicators where leaders are made.

Croydon Communicators certainly demonstrated another evening of "EXCELLENCE TOGETHER"

Can't wait until the next meeting - Thurs 25th October 18:45 prompt! Everyone welcome.
