27th Sept Meeting - HUMOROUS SPEECH & TABLE TOPICS COMPETITION
Something different took place this Thursday at Croydon Communicators which definitely lived up to an evening of laughter.
This was the Division K, Area 35 "HUMOROUS SPEECH CONTEST and TABLE TOPICS CONTEST" and it was time for Croydon Communicators to shine again.
What a turnout! And great to see several new guests! YOU ARE WELCOME!!
Organised by Gareth - Croydon Communicator's Vice President of Mentoring the show was on.
The format was a little different from the norm, and Division K, Area 35 Governor... Dave L - Contest Chair for the event swiftly set the stage for the show and presented the schedule, formalities and order.
This was a very professionally organised event and soon after the rules were explained to the contestants, cards were drawn to determine the order of play.
Judges sat poised and timekeepers, Donna and Wumi set the clocks then... game ON!!
Eight Contestants took center stage through the evening and the audience were enlightened to a night of Speeches filled with Humour.
First up was Oscar, who recently joined Croydon Communicators. And full credit to Oscar who literally threw himself in at the deep end. Oscar's first speech! And he nailed it in the competition! Trapped between the lifestyles of UK & Ghana... Oscar or should I say "Uncle Oscar" that was simply brilliant!
Second came Rahmat, speaking about the very own Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, in very high places!
Thirdly Aarthi, took the audience on an island of forgiveness... don't be afraid, jump in Aarthi; the water is nice, honest!
Fourth in line was Sue, with too much stuff in that closet... sell sell sell $ $ $
Then fifth came Sarah, with some mischievous friends... I wish I saw your painted face!
Sixth to take the stage was Joe. Who said life was easy? Watch out for those deals! That's LIFE!
Seventh place presented itself to our very own President Hanna... Ladies, now there's a lesson, or two.. read the book, or two! PS/ Any lessons for the gents?
And last but certainly not least was Arlene, who could get away with anything back in Jamaica... as long as Granny was around!
All speeches were outstanding, setting high standards and full of humour.
A quick break followed, and the pressure released from the contestants; but not for long! Back on stage for the Table Topics Competition...
The same question thrown to all contestants "Do you agree Yes or No - Life is too short to stuff a mushroom?"
Contestants Sarah, Aarthi, Rhamat, John, Hanna, Joe, Sue, Arlene, Oscar (in no particular order) all spontaneously gave their impromptu best.
After much deliberation by the judges, there were WINNERS!
